Poppy has released a new track called ‘Zig' from her upcoming album of the same name, which is set to be released on October 27, 2023, through Sumerian Records.
Poppy's fans eagerly awaited the release of her fifth album after she hinted at it during a December 2022 interview with Revolver. The album promises to be a groundbreaking addition to the singer-songwriter's discography, featuring 11 tracks that reflect different facets of her artistic identity.
Pre-release singles' Church Outfit,' ‘Knockoff,' ‘Motorbike,' and ‘Hard' have already built a buzz around the album, showcasing Poppy's exploration of dark pop sounds and her collaboration with producers Simon Wilcox and Ali Payami.
Poppy's creative process is evident in the album, with only 11 tracks making the final cut out of 40+ songs. Zig is more than an album; it's a journey through Poppy's evolution as an artist. Poppy, whose real name is Moriah Rose Pereira, is an American singer, songwriter, and YouTuber. She gained viral fame 2014 for her surreal performance art videos that satirized internet culture and modern society. She signed a recording contract with Island Records in early 2014 and released her debut pop EP Bubblebath in 2016. She signed with Mad Decent and released her debut studio album, Poppy. Computer in 2017, followed by her second studio album, Am I a Girl? Which featured a heavy nu-metal influence.
In 2020, Poppy signed to Sumerian Records and released her third studio album, I'm afraid I have to disagree, incorporating heavy metal and industrial rock. She continued her stylistic shift with her fourth studio album, Flux, which featured a stripped-down, alternative rock sound. Zig, her fifth studio album, is set to be released in 2023 and described as dark pop. Poppy's song “Bloodmoney” received a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2021.
