and have surprised fans by announcing their joint album Genre: Sadboy, which will be released on Friday, March 29.

Prior to the release date, the two musicians have dropped their first single ‘Lost Boys', which features emotional and introspective lyrics.

Both artists have been successful in the emo and pop punk spaces over the last few years, and this EP will showcase their ability to switch up their respective sounds on the fly. Though some fans have expressed skepticism about the project in the comments, it remains to be seen how the album will be received.

The lead single, ‘Lost Boys', has a cinematic music video and features both singing and rapping from the two artists. While the production is fairly standard, the track is still a passable one.

Michael Lamar White IV, better known by his stage name Trippie Redd, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He released his debut mixtape, A Love Letter to You, in 2017, which entered the Billboard 200 chart. The lead single from the mixtape, “Love Scars,” received double platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

In 2018, Trippie Redd released his debut studio , Life's a Trip, which featured hit singles such as “Dark Knight Dummo” (featuring ), “Taking a Walk,” and “Topanga.” All three entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album and its follow-up, ! (2019), both reached the top five of the Billboard 200. Additionally, his fourth mixtape, A Love Letter to You 4 (2019), topped the chart. Trippie Redd's third and fourth albums, Pegasus (2020) and Trip at Knight (2021), both peaked at number two on the chart.

Trippie Redd was born and raised in Canton, Ohio, where he joined the Bloods gang at a young age. He grew up on 14th Street and formed a group called “1400/800.” He has a younger brother nicknamed “Hippie Redd” and an older brother who made music under the name “Dirty Redd.” Unfortunately, Dirty Redd passed away in a car accident in 2014. Trippie Redd talked about the impact of his brother's death in an interview with Rolling Stone.

Trippie Redd's interest in music began when he was young, listening to artists such as Ashanti, , Tupac, and . Later on, he was influenced by T-Pain, Kiss, Nirvana, , Fountains of Wayne, the Ataris, , the Offspring, Cute Is What We Aim For, Simple Plan, the Summer Set, Hit the Lights, Marilyn Manson, and . He began rapping after being inspired by another rapper who went by the name Lil Tae. Trippie Redd began recording music seriously after graduating from high school. He eventually moved to Atlanta, where he met rapper Lil Wop and was offered a record deal.

Machine Gun Kelly, born Colson Baker on April 22, 1990, is an American musician, rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor. He's known for his genre duality of alternative rock and hip hop.

He released four mixtapes between 2007 and 2010 before signing with Puff Daddy's Bad Boy Records, an imprint of Interscope Records. His debut studio album, Lace Up (2012), peaked at number four on the US Billboard 200, led by the single “Wild Boy” (featuring Waka Flocka Flame). The single marked his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and received triple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). His second and third albums, General Admission (2015) and Bloom (2017), were critically acclaimed and commercially successful. The latter was supported by the single “Bad Things” (with ), which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100. His fourth album, Hotel Diablo (2019), experimented with rap rock.

In 2020, released his fifth album, Tickets to My Downfall, which was a complete departure from hip-hop in favor of a pop-punk sound and aesthetic. Its production was entirely helmed by  drummer Travis Barker. The album debuted atop the Billboard 200 and contained the single “My Ex's Best Friend” (featuring blackbear), which peaked within the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100. His sixth album, Mainstream Sellout (2022), matched its commercial success, although critical reception was mixed.

Machine Gun Kelly also pursued acting, with his first starring role in the romantic drama Beyond the Lights (2014). He has since appeared in the techno-thriller Nerve (2016), the horror Bird Box (2018), the comedy Big Time Adolescence, and portrayed Tommy Lee in the biopic The Dirt (both 2019).

Baker's family moved around the world throughout his childhood and he lived in Egypt for the first four years of his life. He also lived in Germany and throughout the United States in Chicago, Denver, and Cleveland. His mother left home when he was nine years old and he and his father moved to Denver to live with Baker's aunt. Baker's father fought depression and unemployment. He says he had just two school outfits and endured bullying from children in his neighborhood.

Baker began listening to rap in the sixth grade when he attended Hamilton Middle School, a school with an ethnically diverse student body in Denver. While he lived in Cleveland, he attended Shaker Heights High School. The first three rappers that got him into hip hop as a child were Ludacris, , and DMX, with Baker gaining interest in the genre after listening to DMX's “We Right Here” from the album The Great Depression (2001).
