has released a new single called “In The City,” featuring . She has been teasing the track for a couple of weeks, noting that it's a one-off before she starts working on a proper follow-up to last year's “Crash.”

“In the City” is an upbeat dance-pop song by English singers and . It was released on 19th October 2023 through Atlantic. The two have a history dating back to 2014 when they hung out at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards and did a subsequent cover of “Stay with Me” by Charli.

Nine years later, in the music video for her single “Speed Drive,” Charli hinted at an upcoming collaboration through a phone call with Smith, in which they asked whether she heard the “new mix” and prompted her to “submit” it. On 7th October, Charli shared a snippet of a track she had worked on in the studio, described as “upbeat dance-pop.” The news came shortly after she confirmed she was working on the follow-up to “Crash” (2022).

Smith confirmed the collaboration on 11th October through a post on Instagram, where they were seen strutting down an alleyway in Osaka, Japan, to another track snippet. Charli announced the way on her social media on 13th October.

Although this is their first official joint track, Smith and have been in each other's orbit for years; in 2014, Charli XCX covered Smith's mega-hit “Stay With Me.”
