SiR

Sir Darryl Farris, popularly known as SiR, is an American singer and songwriter from Inglewood, California. He was born on November 5, 1986. SiR released his debut album, Seven Sundays, in 2015 under the independent label Fresh Selects. Later, he secured a record deal with Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) based in Carson, California, and released his second album, November, in 2018. His third album, Chasing Summer, came out in 2019 and was also issued by TDE in collaboration with major-label RCA Records.

SiR grew up in a family where his mother, brothers, and cousin were gospel singers. His mother was a backup singer for Michael Jackson and Anita Baker. His uncle, Andrew Gouche, was a bassist for Prince. SiR’s older brother is the Grammy Award-nominated rapper, D Smoke. SiR attended the Los Angeles Film School, where he earned a degree in recording arts and developed his songwriting, arranging, and production skills.

SiR first gained recognition for his songwriting abilities, initially writing for artists such as Jill Scott and Anita Baker. He independently released his debut project, Seven Sundays, in 2014 and later re-released it in 2015 under Fresh Selects. In 2016, he released the Her EP under TDE, and it was revealed that he had signed to the label later that year. In 2017, SiR released a sequel to his major label debut with Her Too. He then followed that up in 2018 with the release of his first full-length album, November.

In August 2019, SiR signed with RCA Records as his distribution group in advance of his sophomore record, Chasing Summer, which released on August 30th, 2019. The album features guest appearances from Kendrick Lamar, , Jill Scott, , Kadhja Bonet, Sabrina Claudio, and Zacari.

SiR’s musical career began in 2007 when he joined a songwriting group called WoodWorks with his brothers and his cousin Tiffany Gouché, who wrote  for Jaheim and The Pussycat Dolls. He landed a job engineering for Tyrese Gibson in 2012 while quietly developing his craft as a songwriter. After meeting the songwriting duo Dre & Vidal, he went on to work with Anita Baker. Between 2011 and 2015, he co-wrote material for Ginuwine, Jill Scott, and Stevie Wonder. In 2014, he featured on ‘s album Venice.

On August 8, 2019, SiR announced his third album via TDE, releasing the first single off the album, “Hair Down” featuring Kendrick Lamar. On February 3, 2020, he performed at NPR Tiny Desk Concert, dedicating the performance to his infant godson who had passed away a few days before. On April 23, 2020, as part of Top Dawg Entertainment’s Fan Appreciation Week, SiR released the song “Rapper Weed” featuring Boogie. On April 27, he released the music video for the song “John Redcorn,” which was inspired by the TV show, King of the Hill. In May 2022, He released “Satisfaction”.
