Metro Boomin

Leland Tyler Wayne, professionally known as Metro Boomin, is an American record producer. He is famous for his dark production style and is considered one of the most influential producers in modern hip hop and trap music. He has worked with several popular artists, including Future, Young Thug, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Don Toliver, 21 Savage, Nav, and Gucci Mane.

Wayne started his music production career in 2009 at the age of 16 in St. Louis, Missouri. He moved to Atlanta in 2011 to attend Morehouse College and continued to work with Atlanta-based artists. In 2014, Wayne produced the hit single “Tuesday” for iLoveMakonnen, which peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. He gained mainstream success in 2016 with the singles “Jumpman” by Drake and Future, “Low Life” by Future, and “Bad and Boujee” by Migos, which topped the charts. He also produced other successful singles like “Congratulations” by Post Malone, “Tunnel Vision” by Kodak Black, “Mask Off” by Future, and “Bank Account” by 21 Savage. His second number one hit was “Heartless” by the Weeknd.

As a lead artist, Wayne has released several collaborative projects, including Savage Mode (2016) and Savage Mode II (2020) with 21 Savage, DropTopWop (2017) with Gucci Mane, Perfect Timing (2017) with Nav, and Double or Nothing (2017) with Big Sean. His debut studio album, Not All Heroes Wear Capes (2018), and its follow-up, Heroes & Villains (2022), both debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. His most commercially successful release is “Creepin” (with the Weeknd and 21 Savage), which peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the top ten in several countries.

Wayne developed his passion for music production in middle school. His mother bought him a laptop and a copy of the music production software FruityLoops, which he used to make beats. He produced five beats a day in high school and used social media platforms, including Twitter, to network with established rap artists and submit beats for potential music placements. Although he initially wanted to rap, Wayne turned his full attention to hip-hop production as he honed his skills.
