Philipp Dittberner is a German singer-songwriter, born in 1988. He grew up in Berlin-Schöneberg and received his first guitar from his grandmother at the age of twelve.
He is largely self-taught on this instrument and worked at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in the choir, where he learned his songwriting skills. He first played in a school band, later in a metal formation called Inventive Suicide or (later renamed) Out of my Element. He also appeared with the metal group in Berlin clubs early on.
Dittberner is a trained physiotherapist and with this training, he wanted to bridge the waiting semesters, since his first application for a place to study medicine with an Abitur grade of 2.6 was unsuccessful. Since the end of 2012, he has published his songs on the music platform Soundcloud.
In 2014, he wrote the song ‘Wolke 4', which he produced with the Hanoverian electronic musician Marvin Webb (Marv). According to the two musicians, contact and collaboration took place primarily via the Internet and telephone; personal contact only occurred twice during production. With ‘Wolke 4', Dittberner won the Berlin Pilsner Music Awards in 2014, a competition for newcomers to the German music scene that took place as part of Berlin Music Week. It then received some attention, and the radio station Fritz added it to its rotation. On January 16, 2015, ‘Wolke 4' was released as a single and reached the top 10 of the German single charts and the top 10 of the Ö3 Austria Top 40 in March 2015. In 2017, ‘Wolke 4' was awarded triple gold by the German Music Industry Association for over 600,000 units sold (sales and premium streaming).
On September 11, 2015, Dittberner released his second single ‘Das ist dein Leben'. His debut album ‘2:33' was released on September 18, 2015, and reached number 12 in the German album charts. On the single ‘1.40m' by German rapper Prinz Pi, Dittberner sang the chorus. The single reached the top 25 in Germany. On April 8, 2016, Dittberner released the single ‘Neben dir'. He has already completed two tours with these songs, one in 2015, and another in 2017. Dittberner is signed to the Grönland Records label.
In 2017, Dittberner released a collaborative album with Alice Merton titled ‘Kopf aus Herz an', which was met with critical acclaim and certified gold in Germany. His second studio album ‘Every Night' was released on August 18, 2017. In 2020, an EP called ‘Nothing is missing' was released, and he also released a new solo album titled ‘An und für sich' which featured the single ‘Ausruhen'. Throughout his career, Dittberner has earned numerous award nominations, including two Echo Awards (Best National Video in 2015 and Best National Newcomer Single in 2016). His single ‘Wolke 4' was certified triple platinum in Germany, and he has also earned several gold and silver certifications throughout Europe.
