Justin Timberlake has announced his sixth studio album, Everything I Thought It Was.

The 42-year-old singer-songwriter unveiled the album’s full tracklist on a Spotify billboard in Los Angeles on March 4. The album is set to be released on March 15, 2024, through RCA Records, marking Timberlake’s first studio release in six years, since Man of the Woods (2018). The album features the single “Selfish” and the promotional single “Drown”.

In 2023, Timberlake reunited with his former *NSYNC band members and released the single “Better Place” in support of the Trolls Band Together soundtrack. He also collaborated with Timbaland and Nelly Furtado on the song “Keep Going Up,” with Romeo Santos on “Sin Fin,” with Jack Harlow on “Parent Trap,” and remixed songs by Coco Jones and Jungkook. Timberlake also worked with Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams, and Halsey on the song “Stay With Me.”

After releasing the singles, Timberlake announced the upcoming project Everything I Thought It Was in a trailer on January 19, 2024, narrated by actor Benicio del Toro. He unveiled the album on January 25, along with the lead single “Selfish.” Timberlake described the album as “incredibly honest” but also “a lot of fun.” He called it his “most straightforward” record to date, “complex within its simplicity.”

In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music’s New Music Daily promotion, Timberlake said that the album’s title was inspired by a friend’s comment after listening to the album, who said, “This sounds like everything I thought I wanted from you.”
