Tamia Monique Carter, better known by her stage name Flo Milli, is an American rapper and singer. She gained popularity after her 2018 single “Beef FloMix” and its follow-up, “In the Party,” went viral on TikTok, with the latter receiving platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 2019, she signed a recording contract with '94 Sounds, a subsidiary of RCA Records.
Both songs served as lead singles for Carter's debut mixtape, “Ho, Why Is You Here?” (2020), which was well-received by critics and was placed at number 76 on the US Billboard 200. It was also included in Rolling Stone's list of the Greatest Hip Hop Albums of All Time. In July 2022, Carter released her debut studio album “You Still Here, Ho?” which received similar positive reception. The album's lead single, “Conceited,” was certified gold by the RIAA. In 2023, her single “Never Lose Me” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 and peaked within the top 20.
Carter was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards and 2021 BET Awards.
Carter was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, on January 9, 2000. She wrote her first song at the age of nine and began rapping at the age of eleven. She formed a rap group called Real & Beautiful, which was later renamed Pink Mafia, but dissolved when she was fourteen. After watching an episode of BET's music video countdown show 106 & Park featuring Nicki Minaj, she was inspired to write short verses that eventually became songs. Carter cites Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton, and Erykah Badu as her musical influences.
Reflecting on her high school experience, she said, “I dealt with everything, so it just taught me that the only thing that matters is my opinion of myself.” She released her first solo song, “No Hook,” in 2015.
