Doja Cat has become one of the most prominent artists in the world over the last few years. She has done this thanks to a mix of rap and pop.
However, Doja has been trying to renounce her old pop hits in recent months. With her new project, Scarlet, she has been promising something new and fresh. Something that would reinvigorate her fans and have her seen as more of an MC than a singer.
Before dropping the album, the artist gave us four singles, including “Paint The Town Red,” “Attention,” “Demons,” and “Balut.” On many of these tracks, Doja was rapping while gliding over production that one would assume is out of her comfort zone. Once the tracklist was revealed, it became clear that she had a statement to make thanks to a 17-song tracklist that did not contain a single feature. On Friday, the album arrived, filled with unique soundscapes.
This album mixes hardened rap tracks and some sweet r&b/soul songs. “Can't Wait” and “Often” are two songs that could be a The Internet album. However, when you listen to songs like “Wet Vagina” and “Agora Hills,” you are met with bangers that will melt your face off. It's a great mix, and we're sure Doja's fans will appreciate the artistic growth here.

Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, professionally known as Doja Cat, is an American rapper and singer. She was born and raised in Los Angeles, and started releasing music on SoundCloud as a teenager.
Her song “So High” caught the attention of Kemosabe and RCA Records, and she signed a recording contract with them prior to the release of her debut extended play, Purrr! in 2014.
After a break from releasing music and the relatively unnoticed release of her debut studio album, Amala (2018), Doja Cat achieved viral success as an internet meme with her 2018 single “Mooo!”, a novelty song in which she humorously claims to be a cow. Her growing popularity led to the release of her second studio album, Hot Pink, the following year.
The album reached the top ten of the US Billboard 200 chart and spawned the single “Say So”, with a remix featuring Nicki Minaj that topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her third studio album, Planet Her (2021), spent four weeks at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and featured the top ten singles “Kiss Me More” (featuring SZA), “Need to Know”, and “Woman”.
Her fourth studio album, Scarlet (2023), has a hip hop-oriented sound and peaked within the top five of the Billboard 200; its lead single “Paint the Town Red” became her most successful song to date, marking her first solo number-one on the Hot 100 chart among eight other countries.
Described by The Wall Street Journal as “a skilled technical rapper with a strong melodic sense and a bold visual presence”, Doja Cat is known for creating videos and performances that go viral on social media platforms such as TikTok. She is also well-versed in internet culture and is famous for her quirky online personality and stage presence.
Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards, including one Grammy Award from sixteen nominations, five Billboard Music Awards, five American Music Awards, and five MTV Video Music Awards. According to Billboard, she is one of the biggest commercial artists of the 2020s, and she was included in Time's 100 most influential people in the world in 2023.
