Hip Hop artist released a new song “Ottomans,” along with an animated short, as an introduction to “Love & Service,” an animated film and analog . The 40-minute film and 13-song project are a multimedia primer on healing, spirituality, and community.

The film uses a collage of educational children's films from the 70s and 80s, while each song has a unique visual inspired by pen scribblings and charcoal drawings. left Minneapolis in 2020 to move his family to Istanbul, Turkey, and is now ready to share his new perspective.

About Brother Ali

Ali Douglas Newman, better known by his stage name , is an American rapper, community activist, and member of the Rhymesayers Entertainment hip hop collective. He has released seven albums, four EPs, and several singles and collaborations.

Ali was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and has albinism, a disorder that results in the complete or partial absence of pigment in the skin, hair, and eyes. He moved with his family to Michigan for a few years before settling in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1992. He attended Robbinsdale Cooper High School in New Hope, Minnesota.

Although Ali is Caucasian (white American), he has spoken about feeling more accepted by Black classmates than white ones. He could relate to them because they were also judged by their skin color. Ali started rapping at the age of eight and was influenced by hip-hop culture at an early age. He has named Rakim, Chuck D, and KRS-ONE as his early inspirations.

Brother Ali has appeared on several television shows, including The Late Late Show, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. He has also appeared on various podcasts, including Maximum Fun podcast Judge John Hodgman, The Combat Jack Show, BuzzFeed's See Something Say Something podcast, and Max Fun's Heat Rocks podcast. In 2018, he appeared in Sacha Jenkins' documentary Word is Bond.
